  • 1.  CGM Rollout - Dexcom G6 and Obtaining the Overpatch for the Sensors

    Posted 22-07-2022 11:01
    Hi Everyone,

I just want to share my experience here. I am very happy with the subsidised CGM via NDSS but have found a small issue that hopefully will be corrected.

I obtained the Dexcom sensors and transmitter via my pharmacist with no problems and it all happened very fast.

But now I notice there is no overpatch supplied for the sensors like AMSL used to supply when delivering new sensors.

I called AMSL and was told the patches must be ordered via them over the phone or online. This was done on that call and I get them shipped overnight on Monday.

I did say to the AMSL operator this is very inefficient. She agreed.

I will try and contact AMSL via other means and see if they can have the patches supplied with any new sensor orders.

I hope the process can be changed and avoid this messy and inefficient process.

Don't blame the pharmacist or even the AMSL operator. I am sure there is a reason for the process, just hope it can be improved.

I also informed my pharmacist as he was worried he had done something wrong with the NDSS order.

So please be aware of the overpatch issue in the meantime.

Thanks Ian, found the same outcome and had AMSL dispatch some over-patches.

Hi Ian and all those following this thread

Although I use Guardian 3 sensor from Medtronic and personally have found it excellent It does come with over patches. More importantly, if all those new subsidized G6 uses have access to a 3D printer there are files available so you print a cover that goes over the sensor and under the over patch. I have printed a few for a friend and they have found them excellent for keeping the sensor and transmitter securely in place. I am happy to supply a link to the file and if you don't know anyone with a  3D printer. Seach for InRange Diabetes on face book and instagram.

I do know that they are quite expensive to get from overseas. I believe InRange Diabetes has found a local source.

I know this sounds like a commercial but really it isn't. I am just informing people that there are solutions to this issue out there.

    Hi all

My Diabetic Trainer suggested that I logon to "Not Just a Patch".  I was able to order some patches to cover my sensor.  They are Australian and the website  shows different types, patterns and colours.
    Hope this helps.

For those looking for patches for CGMs, "Not Just a Patch" are available from Rockadex, an Australian company in WA, for a variety of CGMs/FGMs and they send pretty much by return post. Have found them good for my DexcomG6 as a cover so they are less visible. I do not need anything to keep them on as the adhesion is excellent on my upper arm.

    Hi Ian,

As a back up I have also used Rock Tape as a sensor cover (Readily available from any pharmacy).

Although I am not familiar with the Dexcom as I use Libre 2, the versatility provided by using Rock Tape that you can custom shape with scissors and or a sharp knife provides another back up if ever required or if you are short of the Dexcom over patches.

    Regards
