What recent information does DA Australia have re the cause of  Ozempic shortage please? I understood the shortage was resolving but recent comments by some forum members encouraged me to check again and TGA yesterday had a statement online about increasing concerns about availability. Is it the case that some doctors are still prescribing it for weight loss patients ? There must be more information that could be given to users/ doctors apart from short statements from the TGA about the shortage, with no reasons given. It seems now there will be poor supply for T2 Diabetes patients until the end of June  2023.

    Hi Ann,

Our advocacy team were sent your message, we have this response back from them below.

    Hi Ann,

Thanks for the message. Unfortunately Novo Nordisk has again advised the TGA that there is limited availability of Ozempic.

Health professionals have been repeatedly encouraged to prioritise prescribing to people living with type 2 diabetes who were using Ozempic prior to the beginning of the shortage and we will continue to encourage health professionals to prioritise people living with type 2 diabetes.

At the end of the day the global shortage will continue until Novo Nordisk can rectify its supply chain issues and increase production.

    Warm regards, DA Advocacy Team.

Please let us know if you have any other questions, Ann - we are here to help.

    Best wishes, Ange.

With all due respect the reasons for the shortage are well known (weight loss industry greed) and to my knowledge there has been no indication that it is resolving, at least in the short term.
The TGA's medicine shortages website https://apps.tga.gov.au/prod/MSI/search has only ever gone  outwards.
You need to remember that this shortage is worldwide. No-one is victimising Australia. And increasing supply is far more complex than many people think. I understand that the company which supplies Nordisk's injection pens have their own production problems.

Perhaps it would help if the regulators were not toothless tigers and stopped just 'recommending' priority for diabetics, and instead started prosecuting the several online 'medical' companies advertising openly their weight-loss programs through semaglutide injections.

I'm pretty sure they don't have the power to do that.

the day before I was tested for diabetes, two doctors recommended Ozempic to me for weight loss (even though I'm already losing weight). So yes, it's still being prescribed for weight loss only.
