I've read in past posts a number of you have travelled overseas recently. I've been looking at travel insurance and have noticed a number of insurers are not automatically covering type 1 diabetes in existing medical conditions anymore. The last time I travelled (2019) this was included. Can anyone explain this change and/or have recommendations for a particular travel insurer.

We travelled overseas last year and there have been a number of changes in coverage since Covid.
1. The good news, most insurers now provide some coverage for Covid - if you have to cancel at the last minute or catch it whilst travelling.
2. The bad news, as a consequence of (1) the insurers seem to have tightened what they automatically cover. Eg once you just ticked a box for diabetes if your Hb1Ac was below a certain threshold and they would give automatic clearance. Now they  ask a number of supplementary questions re diabetes complications but not Hb1Ac! "Go!" insurance added $300+ for my T1D. 
3. Another change is that many insurers have lowered the age exclusion from 80 to 75 (and even 70 for some companies), as well as raising the minimum age to 25. Likewise several car hirers have followed suit.
I could not find any travel insurers (mid last year some companies had not re-entered the overseas travel insurance market post Covid - that has improved lately) - my age (77) knocked me out when applying online. However I travel agent was able to override that blockage (not sure how!).

Previously I had always used CoverMore before I had to switch last.
