  • 1.  Airport security scanners impact on Libre 2 sensors

Has anyone had a problem with airport security scanners making Libre 2 sensors inactive? I have seen some information that suggests the scanners at airports can affect the operation of the sensor.

I received the following advice from Freestyle Customer Care:

Some airport full-body scanners include x-ray or millimetre radio-wave, which you cannot expose your sensor to. The effect of these scanners has not been evaluated and the exposure may damage the sensor or cause inaccurate results. To avoid removing your sensor, you may request another type of screening. If you do choose to go through a full-body scanner, you must remove your sensor.

    Has anyone had this experience?

    thanks

I have been through the full body scanners several times wearing a Libre 2 (and Libre 1) and did not notice any changes in the operation of the sensor or the readings.

The scanner I went through is the Qantas club entrance to Brisbane domestic airport.

I have also been through metal detector scanners and full-body scanners without any L2 issues.

On one occasion, I was pulled aside to explore the L2, but had no problems.

Thanks Jock. It sounds like the scanners shouldn't be a problem.

I've used Libre 1&2 for about 5 or 6 years. I travelled domestically for work, and internationally several times a year and had no issues with sensor operation. The sensor is detected in a full body scan but it seems the operators have learned to accept an explanation as CGMs become more prevalent. Occasionally a pat down takes place.
