Can anyone relate to having painful cramps in Calf Muscles ?

Is this a side effect of Diabetes 2 Medication, or Peripheral Neuropathy ?    Or age related ?

Any comments appreciated !             Cheers,  Geoff

    Hi Geoff,
Yes I suffered terribly and found out not all Magnesium supplements are the same. So I use a specialized one that I drink at night (I don’t need it every night) and I sleep like a baby. It also has meany other benefits. I wasted too much money on inferior products that did nothing.

I've suffered most of my life with cramps and in the old days Quinine was the answer; now it is not recommended due to side effects. Tonic water has a small amount of Quinine in it, that may work for you by drinking copious amounts. All Internet research recommends stretching etc. and for me that seems impossible. Ice helps. Currently I've learned that apple-cider-vinegar helps; I put it into a spray bottle, get in the shower, spray and rub it in, morning and night to start with and it doesn't take too long to dry off, smells a bit though. I find some wines and food can cause cramps, but can't find any info on the Internet. This website may be useful <<https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/14170-leg-cramps>>.

    Hi Geoff

You will not need both Capsules and Karma Rub. The liquid is very effective, especially if applied regularly mornings and evenings

    Kind regards

    Hi Geoff

A 150mg Magnesium tablet a day solved my cramping problem. I swim 5 days a week and am 78 and have been a type 2 since 2007.

    Cheers,

    Brian

    Hi Geoff,

Both my wife (who is not diabetic) suffer the same

The fix is Blackmore's MagMin tablets.  Start with 2 in the morning & 2 at night.

Both of us take 3 morning & night and no more cramps

    Hi Geoff

I recommended before Karma Rub, liquid topical magnesium. I use a few drops morning and evening on my thighs, or when acute I rub it on the painful area. It only takes a few minutes to affect and eliminate the cramps. You can purchse directly on their website or in some Blooms Chemists.  Good Luck!

I sometimes get severe cramps in my thigh muscles, terribly painful. I don't eat processed food and don't usually cook with salt, so I have been told that could be the cause. I take magnesium but if I get a cramp I need it fixed now!

I mix a tsp of bi-carb with some warm water and walk up and down the kitchen until the cramp settles down.

I had terrible cramps in my thighs, I would be limping for a few days after one.  I realised what was causing them, I wrote down everything I ate.  I had a bad one after eating mashed potatoes and lesser one after baked or boiled.  I also get cramps after eating capsicums, chillies and eggplants, these are all nightshade vegetables, tomatoes are a nightshade but I don't have a problem probably because they have been so changed from the original.

Type 2 Personally I have used cinnamon as relief if and when an unexpected cramp occurs.   A couple of dabs on a wet finger ingested will generally take the edge of it quickly and stops any residual tightness in the muscles.  (I keep a special container for that purpose) I currently take magnesium morning and night (for other reasons) and still get the odd calf cramp.

Hi to all who also have  thigh cramps.

I have had these for years- for me the cause is normally that I have walked for a longer distance/time than what would be normal for me or that I have been 'on my legs' for a longer time than normal during the day.

I have been taking Magnesium 2 x1000g  every evening & find that helps. If I do get a cramp- majority of the time I will be woken from a deep sleep. I mange to get to the freezer to get one or two 'soft' type freezer bricks- wrap in a teatowel, hold on thigh till it eases then back to bed with the freezer brick & I can then get back to sleep.

The brand I use is: Bioglan Active Magnesium 1000.  I tend to buy to keep them to keep in stock when they are on special especially at half price.

Best wishes for everyone working out their relief method.

If I experience cramp,  I put my index finger in my mouth and press on the tissue that joins the upper lip to the gum and the cramp disappears immediately.

I thought this might help some people.
